Sold it, but wish I had it back

A while back, a few members that sold their Victor machines regretted the move and would like to have one back in their collection. I think one was a Circassian 16 (not an L-door) and the other was a 230 in Walnut or Circassian Walnut. If my memory is correct- any names? Thanks

I don't think I've ever sold any machine without regrets. But if I had to pick two, the ones I am most sorry to have let go are my coin-op Columbia N, and Columbia AD with Bettini attachment.

I sold mine a while back and was regretful the moment it left, but had no choice. I doubted then that I could ever acquire another one (In the mean time, I acquired a walnut XVI that is being restored at this time). Due to economic hardships over the last forty years, I've built and lost about three collections. This latest one will be the last.

About 17 years ago I wanted a Regina 27" changer in the worse way, so I sold a pristine Victor B (Rene can attest to it, as he now owns it), an Edison Model H coin-op, a Class M, and an Amberola 1A to finance the purchase. Now I not only regret it, but when I walk past the changer or think about it I kick myself for doing it.

It was not one of my better thought out deals....

Wow Chuck-- You had many of the Holy Grails of collecting-- I'm sure you've enjoyed the Regina, but I understand your regrets--

My "regret" isn't quite so dramatic--- I sold a beautiful Amberola VIII a couple years ago and wish I had kept it. I have always liked the Amb. VIII-- I've owned 3 and sold them all---always wishing later that I hadn't. SO... This weekend at Wayne I purchased another VIII from Charley Hummel. I believe it will clean up to be the best one yet-- grills are near mint and the bedplate cleaned up well. It's missing the lid support (easy to find) and has a tiny veneer chip on the top. I think I'll keep this one!

I guess my other 'regret' would be selling the Wizard Phonograph that I had in my collection for about 18 years. I allowed a financial 'down-time' to influence my decision. I could have kept it-- Wish I did.

The machines that I sold and wish I had back....

Edison P-1 Portable (very nice blue case, reproducer was great shape and sounded good) I received about $ 450.00; I think it should have sold for more.

Columbia B Eagle - Very nice with early reproducer...sold for $450.00

Talk-O-Phone sold for $ 750.00 and when I delivered it to his house he said the horn was in great original shape, got any more...LOL

Sold all of these for financial reasons.

I regret not buying things much more often than anything that I've sold. In most cases anything that one sells may again be acquired if only one's purse is sufficiently heavy. On the other hand, sometimes a thing comes up for sale that one never anticipated owning, at a time when it could be afforded. Such was the Wurlitzer 150 Military Band Organ which turned up at auction last spring. I could just afford it, but wasn't prepared to buy anything so large, and so I passed. The beautiful, working instrument went for a pittance, a pittance I tell you!
