$$ for Paramount Blues Records

Post by FloridaClay »

Paramount blues records continue to bring good money. This one just sold for $1,000.

I keep a curious eye on them as I have a friend here, now in his 90s, whose father was a Paramount talent scout in the deep south back in the day.

Looks like that could be a very clean copy as well.

This Charley Patton Vocalion recently brought 17 grand. Patton was a Paramount artist, too.

As far as I know the highest price ever paid for a 78 record is still the $37,100 a Paramount brought two years ago.

I'd like to know what that was. Likely a record that was a sole surviving copy. There are blues records that are known to have been released that have not been located in one copy.

A "King" Oliver Gennett 78 sold for around 32 thousand a few moons ago. I had thought that was the highest priced 78 ever.

Ironically? There are rare vinyl LP's out there that have sold for far more money than any 78 has. Maybe 45's, too. Rock, R & B, Doo-Wop, etc.

here's what that was:

… and if you read my contribution to that thread, you'll see there are actually two copies of that Paramount in existence, both owned by the same collector!

Best wishes, Mark
