Help Removing spring barrel shaft in Victor type M (Vic 6)

Post by barnettrp21122 »

Hello.
I want to clean and regrease the springs in my type M Victor motor, and wonder if there's anything holding the shaft in place, or if it can just be tapped out. I don't see any set pins or screws, but I don't want to damage anything along the way!
Below are a couple pictures. Thanks for any help!

You have to remove the winding gear. It will be tight but it just pulls off. Behind that is a pin, through the shaft, that needs to be removed. Then you can separate the barrels.

Thanks Bob:
Are the winding gear and ratchet gear joined? Do they come off as one piece? Will penetrating oil help loosen the part? Will tapping gently on any component help loosen it? Thanks again!

I think they come off as one piece. I never used penetrating oil, just hold the spring barrel vertically and tap with a rubber mallet on the shaft until it comes loose. Make sure you are just above a table so things don't come crashing to the floor.

Thanks Andreas. I'll proceed with caution!
