Gun metal finish question

Hi everyone,

Just got a New Standard DD reproducer from Rich, thanks. Included this and a LP reproducer,I have now two DD repros in gun metal finish. Both of them have sporadic rust dots over the body. In scrutiny, those reproducers are quite different in the sheen from others. I'm wondering whether it's lacquered and it's safe to apply Renaissance wax polish or it's equivalent to prevent it from further oxidizing. Any input is welcome!
