I have not heard, mine skip, but I have only played one cylinder. Also, the machine, has been rebuilt. So I will try another cylinder.
George did a fantastic job on it, Fran. It just runs so well.
Yea, the nice thing about these little machines, is they do not take up a lot of room. Like some of my larger machines.
The cabinet lid has darkened due to age, plus where it may have been sitting. Also, apparently someone had tried to solder the reproducer, why? I have, no idea?

George does a great job on machines. The Columbia Q machines can sound quite amazing when properly restored.

Re: My rebuilt Columbia Graphophone Q
A Q skipping ahead will usually = belt slippage, because the feedscrew is geared directly to the motor while the mandrel runs by belt. The carriage will drive ahead at 100tpi, no matter what the mandrel is doing. If you took the belt off completely, the carriage would be dragged right across the entire, motionless cylinder anyway.Victrolacollector wrote:Very nice machine! Good example of an early Q. I also like the early style reproducer on there.
Just wondering, some of us collectors have experienced skipping of the record of the Columbia Q. Does your machine skip?

Re: My rebuilt Columbia Graphophone QC
This one was definitely, worth saving. I paid $185.00 for it, but $405.75 to have it restored, and I must say it was money well worth spent. That included a reproduction horn and winding key, plus shipping.
