Re: Records/Artists You Absolutely Despise
I don't think this is bad. If you like an artist, who cares if someone else doesn't? It's not as if you smell bad or anything. For instance, I don't care much for Barbra Streisand or Madonna but if someone does like them, whatever floats your boat applies. Also, if enough people don't like a singer, it helps you when you're trying decide whether or not to buy an unheard recording but it doesn't mean you shouldn't make up your own mind. That's just my opinion, of course, but it is interesting to know what others don't like. Thanks.

We're good. I doubt very many 10 year old girls are into 78s.Edisone wrote:This subject is 100% guaranteed to offend, insult, and/or hurt somebody's feelings. It's a bad idea to question what others may or may not like. Totally subjective, totally impossible to project what YOU like onto what others might enjoy.

I don't think I can work myself up to the level of despising any particular artist: if they don't appeal to me, I simply don't listen to them.
(Though I do admit that Caruso trying to sing in English is a bit too much for me)...

To each his own. I think that sums up everything here.

I also dont care for Ada Jones much. Her singing in my opinion is basic and flat.phonograph guy3435 wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 7:04 am honestly, i don't really care for the ada jones and len spencer vaudeville cylinders (sometimes their funny) but most of the time its scratchy with outdated jokes. i don't despise them tho

Re: Records/Artists You Absolutely Despise
Allow me to present two opinions - one I imagine will be mostly agreed with, the other mostly disagreed with:
Ted Lewis has a knack for ruining almost everything his vocal chords reach. His style of singing is, in my opinion, humorous (and weirdly innovative) the first time you hear it, but the problem to me is that he does this on literally EVERY record he sings on. Good in small doses (maybe 1 or 2!), but wow, it gets old FAST. He does get a bit of grace for having a really sharp band most of the time.
Al Bowlly, I've mentioned before. He is a very talented singer but he sounds very much like he is half yawning and half singing. Even still, his voice, as mentioned by some others on the forum, has its applications, and can sound very good in the right recording (I think of "This Is The Day Of Days" or "We've Got The Moon And Sixpence" for good Al Bowlly songs). Phenomenally talented, yes, but I don't find him to be super enjoyable to listen to.
