Re: WANTED: Edison 2nd Model Home
There is one in the Stanton catalog for their fall music machine auction in Charlotte, Mi. on November 19, 20 & 21. It is item #125. There is a good picture of it a page or 2 after the listing.
Go to the link below and scroll down to the following tab: "Auction Flyer & Catalog, if available".
Open this tab and you will be able to download the complete catalog in PDF form. There are several sections to download. Item #125 is in "Catalog Pages 1 to 15".
I don't know where you live, but they do take phone and absentee bids and they do ship items.

Re: WANTED: Edison 2nd Model Home
I heard somewhere that only 900 of the transitional red banner case Homes were made, at which time the remaining decals from the Suitcase home were used up. Can anyone verify that number?
If so, they had a high survival rate, because I have seen a number of them. When I was last in Union five years ago, there were two, each costing about $900. I bought one.
There is one on eBay right now, but I think it is overpriced.

Here is another on eBay for $850:

Here is yet another on eBay for even less, but the decal is worn:

It is too bad the striping and cabinet finish were not better, I like the one with the automatic style carriage,It has the best of both worlds.

Re: WANTED: Edison 2nd Model Home
I think it's more like 9,000. I've been keeping a Home excel sheet off and on for the last 7 or 8 years. While there was some intermixing of suitcase models and red banner case models in lower serial numbers, the main run seems to begin about 42115 to 52089. The lowest serial number I've spotted is 15971 (legit with type 3 patent plate) and the highest numbers I've seen are a pair of outliers at 70176 and 70532.VintageTechnologies wrote:I heard somewhere that only 900 of the transitional red banner case Homes were made, at which time the remaining decals from the Suitcase home were used up. The Red Banner case models are interesting to me. It seems like somewhere in production the finish may have transitioned into the green oak color. Quite a few seem to be rather dark without the tell-tale "raw" green oak stain inside the lid and case. At first I chalked up the color difference to fading, but now I'm not so sure.

Martin

Martin,
Are you planning to carry out the same research into these models as you did on Standards?.
The results would be interesting, and a lot less lengthy!.

Re: WANTED: Edison 2nd Model Home
I've been keeping similar data on the Homes, but with less regularity. There have been some good articles on the Home. I suppose I might do something in the way of an article if I can add anything that hasn't already been said. If nothing else, it has been interesting. It would be shorter, there were only about 400,000 Homes.

Martin

Martin,
I can't remember if I gave you the info on my machine, but with all the mixtures of parts reproducers carriages &c, it would make for some interesting reading.

Alistair.

A classic case of HA-2 deficiency: while regular doses of black wax may help control the symptoms, the root cause will have to be addressed. You'll have to see a specialist.Amberola wrote:I have looked everywhere with no luck. I really, really want a red banner case Home. Someone help me or I am going to have to be hospitalized!
