The power tool rheostat would certainly provide a greater voltage range than a Lionel train transformer, which typically peaks at around 18-20 volts AC. Other brands, as for the popular HO gauge models, convert line voltage to DC @ 12 volts peak, typically with a lower wattage rating (smaller trains, smaller motors). Years ago I made my own power tool rheostat, using a small GE variable transformer that I purchased on sale and mounted in a project box, with a fused output wired to a standard female panel-mount socket through an on-off toggle switch. I've used this device for going on 50 years now, in conjunction with my Dremel no. 2 Moto-Tool of similar vintage. Like the saying goes, you only buy good tools once!

I have been using Gary Brown for all rewinding. Excellent service and prices.

Thanks for the referral. I sent them an email requesting information on their re-winding service. It would be great if they redo wire wound power resistors.

The search goes on. T.R.S. got back to me and they don't rewind these type of power resistors.
