What "statement" does this make???

Post by Curt A »

Listing from Etsy:
Gatsby inspired antique phonograph cabinet - ONLY $399.00

"This is definitely a statement piece! This old 1920's Sheraton style phonograph cabinet has been repurposed and painted in Mineral Blue with gold and silver accents to echo the Art Deco style of the 1920's. A one-of-a-kind piece, this will bring oooohs and aaaaahs for years to come! Use it as a dry bar, display your collection, or stuff it with a cushion and spoil your cat! There is storage underneath for bottles or cat treats, whatever you may want!"

Can't wait for the oooohs and (gag) aaaaahs...

You know, I actually don't hate it. It's refreshing to see a repurposed cabinet that hasn't been given that god-awful 'shabby chic' treatment.

"Tastefully done..." Nothing beats the appearance of natural wood covered in pink... but why ruin two machines - is this some popular logo???

On a more serious note... I would like to see someone upcycle a phono cabinet into a freestanding fireplace for Christmas... It would be so cheery...

I agree. For a cabinet, it's reasonably tasteful. A darker shade of blue would have have better.

Re-purposing a cabinet can be a very good idea since it would end up in the trash other wise. Painting the cabinets ruins the chances that anyone will ever bring these machines back to life. It's very sad to see. If the cabinets had a fatal flaw that ruined any chances of bringing them back, then I guess it's a victim-less crime. I would NEVER have them in my home.
