Aeolian Vocalion

I posted this in the Craig/Ebay section but I have a few questions about this before I make a trip to look at it. Does anyone have an idea what the wires on the back of the machine could be? Per the owner the tone arm is taped together, is the tone arm considered a 'unobtanium' part. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks Cheers

In my opinion---nice addition to any collection. As for the tonearm, one just sold on Ebay a few weeks back for a real fair price, they are still around complete or parts---just have to keep an eye out for it. I had 3 back brackets cast from aluminum---but the machining cost does not make it feasible to proceed on completing them. I am looking for an Emerson table model similar to your AV, tough one to find. Good Luck and Congrats on your acquisition. ---Herb

I have fond mémories of the Aeolian table top. It was the first machine I ever heard and played it often till a neighbor boy broke the spring trying to wind it the first time. I have a couple records still from that machines matching lower cabinet. Uncle Tom and A Sweet Bunch of Daisies. It had been my Grandmothers fathers machine which she got when he passed in the mid 30's. It must have been a bit larger as it had the volume control pull out knob on the front left. Being really young I didn't realize till it was broken that it was separate from the bottom section an not one piece. As I recall it fit and matched very well. A friend of mine has an oak version of the machine your looking at and it has great sound for a small cabinet.
