How to polish gold plating on Victrola XVI?

Post by oldphonographsteve »

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is any way I can polish off some corrosion that is on my XVI without rubbing off the plating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found using ammonia on parts with gold wash to work great and brightens them right up. I just place it on and wash off fairly quickly. You will want to avoid any types of polishes or abrasive cleaners. You will remove the plating.

I tried some ammonia and it did make a decent difference. Thanks!

Your very welcome. Ammonia brightens and cleans the thin 10K gold plate. However, you can't eliminate all the honest wear of a 100+ years and nor would you want to... ;).
