Ever See A Homemade Phonograph Like This?

Post by SonnyPhono »

A lady contacted me yesterday and sent me some pictures of a phonograph she is interested in selling to me. Ever see one like this? I thought it was interesting. :)

That seems to be a decent job for a homemade phono.

I thought the same thing. At first I thought it was an off brand. But I noticed the Victor tonearm and reproducer and looked closer. Someone went to some trouble to measure and square everything up. I thought it was interesting anyway.

I haven't thought about this phono in a while, but I used to have a homemade phono... It was probably some kind of storage/kitchen box... very arts and crafts looking, but someone gave it some Waters-Conley Phonola parts. It worked, but was more interesting than functional.

I'd bet that in some Popular Mechanics magazine from the 40's-50's you'll find an article on "How to update an old phonograph" with plans for this case.
