Well, to be honest, in this case, I'm a bargain hunter. I really don't intend to collect Victor products. (No slight to Victorphiles intended) I just want something reasonable nice to play Victor records.

But I will be trolling the show to check out Amberolas.

An update on the machine. I got a chance to eyeball it today. It doesn't look refinished. I checked underneath and inside the lid looking for signs of work done. I couldn't find any. The wood looks really good. The metal finish looks good with minimal to no corrosion. It winds up and plays. The spring does make an occasional thumping sound. Never loud and once or maybe twice per play. The lid bumpers are missing. The platter felt was intact but a little worn around where a record would sit. The horn grill is missing what looks like the four screw that should hold it in place. However, I couldn't get the grill out anyway. One strange thing, the back feet were both "incomplete" looking. Each one had a third of the foot missing on the inner portion. No record albums were in the storage cubbies.

Joe, the Granada is a decent mid-range machine and if it appeals to you and you have the floor space for it, by all means go for it. It has the advantage of being practically in your back yard, no small consideration, and IMHO the asking price is quite reasonable. As you may know, the inventory of nice machines in our immediate area is pretty thin. You might find one cheaper somewhere sometime after expending a lot of time and gas, but at $175 why in the world would you want to if you are just looking for a good serviceable machine at a good price?

If I were going to pick it up, I might try offering $150, but would not balk if they stuck to $175.

It is mahogany. The thumping you hear is common and is a sign that at some point if it gets objectionable you'd want to clean and lubricate the springs. After decades the original grease gets tar like and the leaves of the springs stick together and then release with a thump when the pressure builds up.

My thoughts as well Clay. I just have to clear it with the wife!

However, does anyone know about the thing with the rear feet? (Never mind. I finally found a picture of the rear feet. They should be full size.)

Btw, when is that local get together?

We haven't forgotten you Joe. Things just crazy due to the holidays and some travel. We'll try to set something up in January.

I would recommend not to buy that one for $175. With some patience I think you can do a lot better with $175 or, get something like that one for around $100. If you are not in a rush, hold back until you see one that really strikes your fancy. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice everyone. That is what I love about this group. Anyway, I got in contact with the Victrola Doctor and a set of those feet would run me $70 plus shipping. Add on the cost of reproducer rebuild since it has never been done and I'm no longer interested. The gent who owns it paid more than his asking price a few years ago at an auction. He doesn't wish to lose anymore money. Understandable of course.

Wrong reproducer, too . Good thing you avoided this one.

Really? Now, I'm curious, what is there and what should it have been?
