Re: New APS Journal
Mine just arrived and it looks amazing as always. The plastic that holds it shut was split though so I think the postal delivery person read it cover to cover before delivery...

George,
Enjoyed your article on the Columbia Type C. Do they suffer from Columbia's notorious pot metal carriage parts?

I'm glad you enjoyed the article, Clay.FloridaClay wrote:George,

The Type Cs - like the Type ATs - didn't have pot metal carriages until 1899-1900. Sometimes those are a problem and sometimes they aren't. (I have several in my collection functioning perfectly after 110-115 years.) The early Type C pictured in the article has a nickeled brass carriage like those on all Type As and early production ATs.
Fortunately, pot metal carriages can often be repaired by a competent person. (Even I can do it!
I'm pleased that you've received your journal, Clay!

Re: New APS Journal
I have word that my copy is coming across on the Royal Mail Steamer Niagra via New York - Southampton so sent a telegram to inquire and received the following reply via the Niagra's wireless:
"Niagra departed NY Thursday morning w anticipated arrival in Southampton Tuesday afternoon. Now expecting 1 day delay due to rough seas and overnight stoppage due to ice. The Captain"
So if they really do get into Southampton Wednesday, I'm optimistic my copy will arrive by train at the central post in Prague Friday or Monday. I'm sure it will be worth the wait as always.
