Is this Victrola Refinished?

Post by oldphonographsteve »

Hi all,
I was considering buying this victrola I found online but I can't quite tell if the finish is faded on the outside or if it is just plain refinished. The seller did not mention whether it was original or not. Thoughts?

I believe it was refinished, but not inside the turntable compartment. (also has something like an AUDAK reproducer, made of pot metal & you can see it cracking in the pic)

Cody is selling one in the Trader section for $350 with a nice original finish. Of course location is a big deal with any large machine. If the
$450 machine is near you, I believe it is worth $450. The mahogany is beautiful. If you've seen it in person, does the outside color approach the inside color? That would be a big deal to me. Jerry

Its not really near me, as its about two and a half hours away. I did see Cody's listing and was considering but it looks like another forum member is about to buy it. This is something I'm going to have to think about. Thanks for letting me know that it was refinished and that the reproducer is incorrect.

I would check it out, see how well the finish looks, I would make sure everything matches.

Also, make sure that the machine cranks up and works....if everything looks ok and works I would say $450.00 is tops.

You should be able to find a replacement gold tone reproducer (Vic Ex. or #2) for less than $125.00
