Hi all,
I just bought a collection of 72 cylinders on ebay at about £2 per cylinder and am wondering if I can buy a model h reproducer, as there are a few interesting sounding 4 minute ones.
Up until now I have stayed with 2 minute cylinders and given away the 4 minute ones, but some of these look worth hearing to me.
I have a combination fireside and am pretty new to cylinders, apart from change the reproducer what else do I need to do to play 4 minute cylinders, if anything?
I'll buy from america providing the shipping isn't going to be too crazy!
thanks in advance!
Rob

A Model H reproducer is all that you would need to play 4M cylinders on the Fireside. I think the Fireside came factory equipped with a model K, but since you already have a Model C, I would not bother with the added expense of grading to a Model K. Some collectors claim that a Model H will play better than a Model K or even cause less record wear, although I have seen no evidence of that.
Those reproducers appear all the time on eBay. Those with green paint on top are the earliest ones and should fetch a premium. They are lightweight, so shipping ought not be too expensive (relatively speaking). I have imported disk machines from Europe - now THAT is expensive.

The Fireside came in two models. The earlier one had a reproducer carriage that accepted small reproducers such as the C, H, and K without any need for adapters. The later Fireside had a different carriage that accepted larger reproducers. Therefore to play the Models C, H, and K on that later style machine requires an adapter ring to fit the small reproducers into a larger hole.djoutrage wrote:I heard on facebook when I posted the same question something about a reproducer ring. What's all this about?
