WANTED: Victrola X motor and motorboard

Post by Chilesave »

Does anyone have a motor and motorboard for a mahogany X tabletop.

The one I need is for this machine.

I bought what I thought was a nice original machine a couple of years ago off Craigslist. When it arrived, someone had replaced the motor and motorboard with cheap portable parts. (Oh well, my fault for not asking more questions when I bought it.)

Anyway, the case is decent so I am on the lookout for the guts. Might be too expensive to fool with; but, if some has a parts machine hopefully I could bring it back from the grave.

Or if someone needs a decent case, let me know that as well.

thanks,

Can you post the dimensions of the opening? I should have one of those around here in my parts as I junked one of those out 4-5 years ago. I probably still have the horn doors if you want those. I would need to know what size they are as well and I can do some looking. I know the lid is gone and the rest of the cabinet is gone as well.

The dimensions of the opening for the motor board are: 12" X 12"

Notice the crank hole for the motor is at the very front of the motorboard.

Thanks, I hope you might have the parts!

Sounds like what I ran into last summer off of craigslist. A nice VV-XI tabletop with replaced parts. I advise you to do what I did and check with forum members on here for parts. I will say the motors are not easy to come by, I was fortunate to have a motor in mine. But still debating if it is the correct motor as it has the double cut teeth, but fits with no additiona holes in the case.

Forum members sold me a gold reproducer, tone arm, bracket, speed control, brake, escucheon, crank, knobs and a needle cup. I found the key on ebay. George V. Sold me a ID plate. George V. told me this would cost hundreds maybe into thousands to fix, because alot of these parts are also used in external horn models.

Hang in there, if you are unable to find the parts from forum members some parts will probably be available from George V., Mark G., or Ron Sitko.

You have a nice model and just may require a little more patience to acquire the parts.

I will keep my eyes out for parts for you. All the best,

Jerry P.

does anyone have a picture of the correct tonearm and motor that goes with this machine??

also I think the motor board uses an early bullet brake.. looks like the motor board is rabbited out around the edge to let it recess in the case.

I have covered Richard with the motorboard. The tone arm is "common" as it is found on Vic III, IV, V and others. Which he may have in the bottom of the cabinet. I cannot tell from his picture. The brake is a bullet style brake, you are correct. Here is image of the motor. It is just like a Vic III but winds from the "other side". See pic from my Table top X. John

That is the same motor in my tabletop VV-XI tabletop, except winds from other side.

Only the very first VV-X table top had the bullet brake, later ones habe the scissor type brake and then the Murray type brake. It all depends on the serial number, also with the speed control I think. I recently posted mine as Featured Phonograph, you can find it in the Archives section of the forum. Sorry, I'm traveling right now and can't post a link.

Early VV-X and VV-XI table top machines had the double cut motor, it was changed to the quad cut within a year or two. Baumbach's Victor Data Book has all these details.

Good luck completing your VV-X. It may not be a high value machine, but they have not been made in huge numbers and there were several iterations, so they are worth preserving.
