My point in posting a reply was not to criticize the picture or the angle but rather to try to help you in identifying the stylus and bar based on what I could see in the picture that you provided.

The picture is obviously clear but when I indicated that it "looks like a Columbia 4 minute stylus and stylus bar but difficult to confirm by the angle of the picture" I was merely suggesting that an additional picture from a different angle might be helpful in confirming. For example, a picture reflecting a side view might have been helpful.

Good luck with it.
Hello,

I want you to know I do appreciate any input you or anyone has on this..and I thank you for taking the time to reply.
Maybe I was to quick and short on my reply...I'm sorry bout that. Sometimes I lightheartedly post what I'm thinking to quick and it comes out not sounding like it should.

In no way do I feel you were criticizing my photo.
I truly want to know what would be a better angle.
I'll try for a top view and get the other side...but here is a closer one that may help. It looks like this all the way around it. The other side would show the same thing.

And by the way...I broke the reproducer...or should I say it kind of fell apart. I should have been more gentle but I think it was already starting to break.

So now I have parts for a K reproducer..and what ever this stylus is...heh.

Looks like a Columbia 4 minute stylus and stylus bar but difficult to confirm by the angle of the picture. As Bill suggests I wouldn't use this on any wax cylinder. If it is indeed a Columbia 4 minute bar and stylus these were intended for play of Indestructible cylinders.

Doug
Doug, do you have a Columbia 4 minute reproducer for comparison? I would like to see the details.

My pleasure, Bill. I have 3 of them so I selected one at random this morning and snapped a few pics for you. Please forgive the poor lighting as it's still dark outside this morning and I had to use electric lighting for the pictures as opposed to my preference of using natural lighting for pictures.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for that. I do appreciate it.

I wanted to post another image that may be easier to see the tip on. Kind of looks like a home made stylus tip..heh

I'm also posting an image of how the stylus is attached to to the diaphragm. Looks like it's been there for a few years.

The first images are of the reproducer and where it broke. Looks like it had a previous fix.

That screw is how it came out of the front part where it latches it. Is it supposed to have something wrapped around it like that?

Thanks again
Iva

Good photos, Doug!

However, comparing the angle of the styli (and their mountings), I still think that Iva's example looks more like a Diamond stylus.

But wouldn't the tip look different then the rest of it?

ok...off to look up more on diamond stylus...

Thanks for the input.

Well it certainly isn't a Diamond Stylus.
(Unless I'm not finding the right one with Google)

I think it's a Model B Stylus though.

any one else with some thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Iva

Certainly not an Edison Model B.... unless you mean a Diamond B. :ugeek:

lol....but the bar isn't right for a Diamond B ?

Edited to ask...
Is it possible it's a Diamond tip welded onto straight bar?

Looking at your most recent pictures it certainly appears that a "creative" prior owner cut off the end of the original stylus bar shown in the pictures, thereby truncating the original stylus and its holder and then silver soldered a truncated Edison diamond stylus bar with its diamond stylus onto this stylus bar. And then cleaned it up a bit with a grinder to look somewhat correct.

A LOT of work for what may result in damage to any cylinders played with this cobbled together stylus bar.

I would definitely NOT use this (apparently) cobbled up stylus and stylus bar.

The bar and stylus appeared to me (in the original picture early on) to be similar to a Columbia 4 minute bar and stylus but with the recent pictures it's definitely not. I'm fairly confident this is a cobbled together stylus bar.

This entire reproducer has been messed around with as evidenced by the homemade knotted diaphragm link and the hinge block debacle.
