Horn Questions
I have seen this horn on mostly Columbia machines and occasionally off brand machines. Does anyone have any info on this horn? Was it a Columbia horn? Was it an upgrade from the standard horn? What machines was this offered on? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Horn Questions
That is a horn commonly found on Swiss and German made machines. They have a bayonet fitting but Columbia had a quantity made with threaded fittings- they were for special "Columbia Europa" machines destined for the export trade, but WWI stopped that.whitedogfive wrote:https://www.etsy.com/listing/102249575/ ... al-antique

Embossed steel horns were very popular in Europe but never really caught on in America

Re: Horn Questions
The horn I have has the screw in and not the bayonet style insert. Is it possible this was sold with an American marketed machine or as an optional horn?

The link you posted shows a horn with bayonet end used on European machines.whitedogfive wrote:The horn I have has the screw in and not the bayonet style insert. Is it possible this was sold with an American marketed machine or as an optional horn?
Maybe you can post a pic of the horn in question?. As estott wrote, threaded end horns like this were for certain Columbia export models.
However, according George & Tim's book (Talking Machine Compendium, page 191), these horns were also an option in the US during the last years of Columbia external horn model production. The horn pictured in the book is painted black & red.
Hope this helps...
