It has had the top replaced. It wouldn't have the hole for the crank if it were not a glass top cabinet would it?

This was the original posting:

I am trying to find a cabinet to make a Home under Glass.

So what has "...had the top replaced?" Perhaps posting that you are trying to RESTORE a cabinet that once had an Edison machine under glass but whose top was replaced would have been simpler. If your present cabinet (not mentioned in the original post) has a hole for the crank...

*Deep breath.*

Good luck.

Better check with some experts before cutting holes into existing H&S Cabinets. You need someone who has a glass top and a H&S "not under glass" cabinet to measure the depth of the cabinet from the cabinet top to the TOP OF THE FIRST DRAWER.

It might only be a half inch but there is a wooden floor beneath the machine and above the first drawer in order to keep your records clean from oil and grease. Don't cut anything until this is confirmed. My friend did not have both on hand to measure. Rene or Richard can you confirm that distance if you have one of each style? Just trying to help before sawdust starts flying. John

To respond to George's question re "had the top replaced"-- What Ronnie is referring to is my cabinet that is posted a few posts back. I sent Ronnie several pictures of the cabinet with a detailed description. I've had the cabinet for many years-- When I traded for it, The oak top had been replaced by a piece of marble but there is a crank hole on the side. (My guess---"What's this big rectangular hole doing in this cabinet--Jedidiah!, get me a piece of marble")

Using measurements from an identical under-glass cabinet that showed up at Wayne a decade or so ago, I had a wood worker friend fabricate a top from quarter-sawn table leaves and make the top frame that holds the glass. That's as far as I got with the project and since I'm decreasing the size of my collection, offered it to Ronnie.

I'm hoping he will decide to take it. He and I have had other very satisfactory dealings in the past. AND-- until Ronnie makes a decision, he has first right of refusal-- If he decides not to take it, I will likely post it on the Trader. It's a very nice cabinet-- The pulls match a larger version cabinet that I have with a Home machine installed. I am 95% certain it is H&S, but would love information that either confirms that or 'sets me straight'.

I love that the Forum is such a great place to continue to learn even after 40 years of collecting. Thanks, George!
