] Great machine. Your tonearm and volume control look like the same style as those on my machine. Does it have the same amp?

Bill,
My P-11 was made in 1926. It does have the same tonearm. In the beginning like Victor, Brunswick simply used their acoustic tonearm and attached the electric pick up with a short pivoting arm that allowed the pick up to be "thrown back" when not in use. It is important to do this. Allowing the pick up to rest on or near the turntable with its open ends close to the steel turntable will slowly demagnetize the pick up.

The volume control does look the same but the one in this machine like so many others went bad. Brunswick used a stepped control of 5 or 10 sets of resistors potted in wax or coal tar. Mine has a new modern volume control and a re-used Brunswick plate and vintage knob. The Volume control on my P-3 still works on 4 of the 5 stops.

Here is a back to a 148-C offered on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231682887962?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT It is not mine but it shows the typical Brunswick panatrope back. Your case probably had just 2 screen openings. The photo here shows it upside down. Note the brass turn locks I mentioned earlier and the hole cut for the power supply cord.

Dear Springmotor: The link to the photo was very helpful. I can easily create one using that general design but the little brass latches will be a problem. I suppose finding a pair of those is slim to none.

Earl: no luck at Van Dyke or any other marine or cabinet latch company I can find on google. Will try one other option before advertising for one.

Bill,
I got out my P-3 DeLuxe brochure and there was the Stratford shown.
All of these DeLuxe cases were originally designed for acoustic machines but then modified for all electric reproduction. I have realized that that is the power plunger type power switch on the side of your cabinet in the place oringaly planned for the volume control damper was originally plan. I suppose it was easier to just leave the crank escutcheon in place rather than plug the hole and the screw holes as well.

As I previously mentioned I have the P-3 Georgian. It has one of the needle cup holes plugged with matching walnut for the volume control. The album section was reduced in size and paneled over to make room for the amplifier.

Here is the Georgian P-3. I bought it at Union a few years ago. The original owners had stored it away since the 1930s! It was found in remarkable condition and still possessed its albums and key. - It needed minimal electronic restoration and the grill cloth was replaced. This cabinet was designed with a sliding door to close off surface noise because the horn (and now speaker) is on the interior.
