Those plastic talking strips were apparently made for decades. My mom said when she was a kid the strips were handed out as novelties during the Saturday matinees at the movie theater she went to. I ran across some made in the late 1960s and I should still have a few packed away.

The vibrations were hill and dale, and the recording lasted about a second, long enough for 2 or 3 words. The reproduction was fairly clear.
