The phono looks like a VV 2-55 that was just laid in place. Certainly this can't be original, can it?

I guess the turntable is electric. How would you wind the thing?

what are you doubting? everything looks correct (just not sure about the reproducer, which should be the orthophonic type with the mesh inside). the crank inserts like any other from the right side of the machine - it's a long one, as with the console/lowboy models.

actually, scratch that, I didn't notice it was a VE rather than VV... so it should be electric... otherwise, it looks pretty identical to the 7-11 I used to have (and that another board member currently owns, I think).

Re: VE 7-11X - Is the phono original?
For this model, Victor did base the phonograph on the 2-55 / 2-65 metal portables.
I have a VV 7-11 , which is the wind-up version. These originally came with the fancy-bound 12" album folders.
I'm curious about the reproducer - it should have a 5-A Orthophonic (covered), like the portable, but this one has four screws through the back plate, like a #2 or #4 ?
Anyone playing around with these early AC Radiolas should be well-warned to watch the plates of the #80 rectifier tube when powering-up: if they start to glow red, power-down the set IMMEDIATELY - the filter capacitors are shorted, and continued operation will burn-out the power transformer.

No real problem there. If you let the smoke out of the power transformer just go into your cellar where Radiola 18's are stacked like cordwood and pull out another Socket Power Unit.De Soto Frank wrote:For this model, Victor did base the phonograph on the 2-55 / 2-65 metal portables.

One of Victor's more absurd ideas: all the disadvantages of a portable without being portable.

I'm still looking for an SPU (or at least a power t-former) for a Radiola 60, after two years...
