Victor 3 Spring Motor Spring Direction

I just took my motor from my VV-XVI apart to clean the two barrels I haven't worked on yet, because they were a bit sluggish. Sure enough, the old grease was all caked up... I'm now having trouble figuring out the spring direction. The barrels are just spinning, with no tension building up; the springs were hooked up, so I assume it's spring direction. BTW, this is the model without any winding gears.

Ben, Did you buy another VXI motor..??. I asked because of what you wrote in your previous post...

"I decided to fix that spring instead of replacing it. I annealed the broken end of the spring (unfortunately the inner end), and redrilled the hold, and filed it to shape. I cleaned and regreased all three springs, rebuilt the governor, and cleaned and lubricated all gears and pivots. The motor now runs well, reasonably quietly, and is still plenty powerful."

There are motor diagrams in the back pages of "Look For The Dog". If you don't have a copy....you should get one... .

No, I haven't bought another motor. I guess that wasn't a completely correct statement in my first post; for the two good barrels all I did was spray them with a good amount of WD-40... that loosens up and softens the grease. It didn't leave me with that good of a feeling, so I decided to take them apart and repack them with proper grease...

Problem solved... One of the centre spindles was just slipping out of the spring hole when I was reassembling the motor. A bit more care, and the problem is solved...
