Edison H-19's: Nickel Plated, Gold Plated, or both?

I've seen S-19s in both gold and nickel (there's a mahogany w/gold hardware downstairs now). Like Bruce, I can't recall ever seeing an H-19 in nickel.

I own an H-19 in mahogany with the fleur-de-lis grille. It has gold hardware. I've never seen one with nickel hardware. Frow is a good source, but does have some inaccuracies. Such as when Frow says about the Edisonic machines that they first came out with a metal motor board and sometime in 1928 switched over to wooden motor boards. That is an inaccuracy for sure.

I had a Mahogany example, shield grille, with an oxidized bronze horn neck- reproducer was missing and the crank escutcheon was too far gone to determine the finish. It could be that on these low end machines they used what parts were available.

I serviced one for an antique dealer a few years ago...it had gold hardware.

I think it is safe to say that ALL Hepplewhite H 19s were produced with gold furniture.

I like to goof around, and there are times when I may come off as a bit of a joker, but I must point out that I was in no fashion attempting to disparage George L. Frow.

I am, and always will be, in awe of his work. Sure there are inaccuracies, but considering when he accomplished his research, and the fact that he lived overseas, I'm sure it was very difficult under the best of circumstances.

It's incumbent upon us, as historians, to build upon what has been laid down before us, and try to be graceful when we do.

His work is, and shall remain, one very important guide and inspiration for me for all time.
