Looking for good source for Grille Cloth
I have some Edison Diamond Disc machines needing grille cloths, but I am not very happy with the synthetic grille cloths offered on Ebay. They tend to be the wrong texture and the wrong colors. I even tried to dye a grille cloth to a more correct color only to learn that synthetic fabric cannot be dyed. Does anyone have a source for good Edison grille cloth?

Re: Looking for good source for Grille Cloth
marcapra,
I sympathize. The synthetics and silk look alikes that I have been using have looked ok color wise but they are much too heavy and block quite a bit of sound. Recently, I bought a synthetic fabric, nylon I think that is very sheer. This fabric is see through when held up to light so I thought it might be good. Problem is it's a glittery tan color so with the light on it the look isn't right. A spray can of Testers Metalic Copper paint took care of that making it the right color but still leaving it see through and no sound blockage. A lot of fuss to go through I guess.

Thanks Mike and Brian for your input! Mike, that sounds interesting. Can you show me a pic of your finished grille? And where did you get the sheer fabric? Thanks, Marc.

This is what I ended up with. The finished color may not be right for this Chippendale but I wanted something other than gold or brown, and you can see right through it. With light on it the color shows solid. There is no sound blockage, it is as if the grille were removed. I don't know if this is any good, just trying it out.

Mike, thanks for going to all the trouble of taking those pics! That grille Cloth looks great on your Chippendale! As there's no sound blockage as in many other grille cloths.

Mike, This looks great. Do you have a sku or stock number for this from Joann Fabrics?mikejk wrote:This is what I ended up with. Ed,
I am sorry, I don't have any numbers on this. When I tag along with my wife, I browse all the aisles looking for something better. This was located in the aisle with all the prom dress material. Lots of sheer stuff but nothing the right color, so with paint I guess we can come up with whatever we want. My wife says it may be a type of organza ?

marcapra,
My pleasure posting pics. Hope it is of some help. Thanks for looking.

I should mention that I have used some of this material as is in some machines and it looks quite good, just depends on the cabinet. Seems to go well with oak.
