EMG addresses

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the differences in the EMG Grape street address? I notice that the ivorine plaque on some machines says: "11, Grape St. Shaftesbury Avenue, W.C.1". A soundbox container I own states: "11, Grape Street, New Oxford Street, London, W.C.2". The phone number also has several variations. I wonder at what stage, if any, the official postal address was changed? Is it possible to date items with these variations in address?

Thanks for the link, that information is really interesting. I presume that from 1933 all EMGs would have had the trademark ivorine plaque? Did the earlier plaque simply showing the address always say Grape Street Shaftesbury Avenue WC1, or have any been seen with the address as Grape Street New Oxford Street WC2? Looking at adverts reproduced in Frank James book the two ways of writing the address seem to be pretty interchangeable in the first couple of years at that address.

Nothing is certain with EMG---all are hand-made and often to the specific requirements of customers ! It would seem logical to think that after 1933 all deckboards might have sported the "armchair" ivorine plaque, however, I think it is safe to say that nobody really knows for sure. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be enough certainty to be helpful for reliable dating purposes.
