Great idea to put the B&W pic and current state side by side for comparison Phonophan79.

Anyone know what is the purpose of the greenish papery looking thing on the end of the GEM/Fireside sized horns in front of the chippendale? Are they to make it more comfortable to put the small end of the horn to your ear?

I'd guess those green cushiony things were for TAE to listen to DD's. It'd be pretty uncomfortable to have the small metal end of a horn jammed in your ear all the time!!

Wonderful set of photos which I am just now seeing, terrific in color too! I guess they felt no threat from Brunswick as none is in the photos that I can spot at least. I know the concept of which machines were the best often falls to the Victor lovers, but I am certain in this room it was obvious which machine could produce the really realistic tones of music.

Indeed it is! But it is a shame that the machine you speak of (the Victor XVI) has the lid down and the doors closed. Misleading if ya ask me. ;)
The XVI lid probably has not been opened for decades. Nobody want's to listen to all that scratching sound

I'm proud to say that the Columbia shown in these latest photos was mine. I donated it to the historic site after Jerry Fabris announced that they were looking for one.
