Victor XVII near Washington DC

Stopped by a local antique store in Bowie MD this afternoon and found the dealer has about a dozen or more victrolas etc. If anyone near DC is looking for an XVII (mahogany) in pretty good shape he just got one in the shop. He won't be open again until Wed. The store is Fireside Antiques and their number is 301 464-2999. He isn't firm on a price yet but guessed around $600.00. Looks pretty good but missing the lower key escutcheon (unless it's inside or something). I have two already but figured someone here might want one.

Just curious whether they had any portables there? I'm not too far away from that area and might want to check it out.

Yeah, there were two or three Columbia portables and a 1-35. None of them are in great shape, but a couple are OK. I think they are open Wed through Sunday from around 11 to 5. There are about 4 or 5 antique stores within walking distance in downtown Bowie.

I was in here today and looked at a bunch of his machines. Very interesting stuff, none of it in very good shape, but still...

He seems to be more of an old radio guy.

Wow, When I saw Bowie, Md.---what a flash back. Went there in 1980, to see Olan Chiles, a gentleman that had the Paige and Jewett automobile register. From there it was down to Hood, Virginia to a Antique automobile museum, and then to Niagra Falls, NY.---they have a big hole up there that they are trying to fill with water. What a Honeymoon!

Well now you've done it. I went back and bought the Columbia Viva Tonal 202. Got the price down considerably to where I thought it was a no brainier. Also brought in a pack of fresh steel needles to try it out instead of the rusty old nails he uses in his machines. I found that the sound was amazingly good and this was too good to pass up. I need to fix the issue with the tone arm-lid connection but other than that it only seems to need lubrication. Here's a test clip from when I got it home.

Needless to say I'm very happy.

This is the problem area I need to find a part for. Clearly the metal piece that was on this is not original, nor is it properly made. It says "CHINA" on it, as well. Can anyone show me what the missing plate where the tone arm assmbly attaches to the lid should look like, so I can get an idea what I'm looking for? I would be grateful for any help someone might be able to provide.

Can't help you on specifics with the part ID, but machine looks pretty decent !

Watched a bit of your video, platter runs nice and true, motor speed sounds constant.

That plano-reflex tone-arm ( with the flattened elbows ) is supposed to offer improved reproduction.


Someone here will know which part you need for that lid-stay connection.

Perhaps Phonofreak (Harvey Kravitz) knows ?

I have a model 202 also. Here are some pictures I took. I also disassembled the latch/release from the lid catch to try to get you an accurate rendition of the piece you need.
