Another Silvertone finished

I know most collectors concentrate mainly on Victor, Edison, and Columbia machines, but I have a soft spot for Silvertones. The cabinets are as good as any of the "big boys" (or better) and they are very well built, heavy, play great, and have strong motors. This big two spring table top model is a great example especially if you like tiger oak. Came to me a while back needing just a real good scrubbing, some touch up here and there, re-greasing, minor adjustments, and new turn table felt, The only thing still missing is the reproducer adapter. (need one) It even has a Silvertone record duster and a Silvertone needle package. This is one big heavy machine - solid built, plays loud and clear. The tonearm finish is decent with no damage. I wish there was a good data base for Silvertones,,,, as like my others, this one has no model or serial number tag or label anywhere to be found....

Your Silvertone looks great, what nice wood grain. I have one Silvertone, an upright in oak and it also is a well built beautiful machine, whisper quiet motor. Not bad at all. Love your table top.

Would of liked to see a picture of the grill. I agree Silvertones are nice machines---quite a bit of different models and accessories. Maybe you can be the one to go to, along with The Silvertone gentleman (Benjamin, from Tenn.) that posts here for info and knowledge.

Grille - not removable. Small area damaged missing some veneer.

You are lucky with that grill being mostly intact- for some reason the grilles in these oak table top Silvertones have a habit of delaminating and often fall apart completely.

I had this machine in mahogany and it was the best table model I had heard. Clear and nice tone. And as you say quality cabinet and motor. The sears catalog states they used the same quality motor in the table models as the larger units. I think this is pretty much true. Also they put out some very fancy cabinets that rival Victor or Columbia. My biggest regret is passing on a burled walnut Silvertone some years ago, it was a very fancy cabinet but at the time I thought I didn't really have a place for it. Growing up with the Sears Book in the country as our main source for shopping I have a soft spot for things produced for them.. I still cook on what was the last kerosene cooking range that had a Kenmore name plate. Unfortunately the quality of it didn't live up to it being the "best" so after six months the name plate came off though they still sold it for years after up into the mid 70s. I have also nearly the whole line of glass Flamex cooking ware from the 40's war period.

Great job on your Silvertone. I love the wood graining. Do you have a picture of what the reproducer elbow looks like? I might have one for you.

Congrats on the nice clean up. You just can't beat a machine that cleans up this nice no matter the brand or style. I never tire of looking at super clean original machines.

Agreed, where's the Silvertone go to guys. I've been poking around the internet looking for info on a fancy floor model, just not much info out there.
