I saw this on Craigs list and wondered if it was even possible to find the missing mechanism so this beauty could sing again. Quite a beautiful cabinet. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/fuo/5433146048.html

Looks like a Model 580: featured a 4 spring motor, non-set automatic stop, and the "New Columbia" reproducer.

Re: Empty Columbia Phonograph Cabinet Illinois
Given Columbia's historic use of stock / similar mechanicals across their product line ( especially as the years went-on ), I think the motor, platter, tapering tone arm & reproducer are the same as the "New Colulmbia" upright models... if the hardware is supposed to be gold plated, that could be a challenge, but I think the most diffcult parts to find will be the horn and that long crank ( unless a Victor crank would work... )
The "New Columbia" reproducer has a "coin-edge" around the perimeter, and four screws through the face of the bezel. Same bayonet-mount as the # 6.

(If you go to see it, check behind the drop-front in the middle, to see if the grille / louvres and horn are there, if they are, it might be worth $100... you'll probably spend that much on the missing parts, and then have a working console that's worth about what you have into it. I might have a four-spring motor, arm, reproducer for a "New Columbia".... will have to check the morgue... they are in nickel plate though...)

That is beautiful and I hope you can get it. Simply a matter of time and expense, hopefully minimal to get it complete. When I talk to my boy Pete Dilg later, I'll ask him about parts. He's very knowledgeable.

The New Columbia decal used the same design as their record labels at the time.edisonplayer
