I follow your thought George, it could be the screw in type elbow. The pictures make it look like its part silver and then brass at the reproducer.

My thought that someone was making the all brass soldered on elbow.

As you mentioned earlier, Larry, the poor quality of those photos leaves a number of questions unanswered. I'm especially impressed by the shots of the awards decal. Why would he even include them? No one could tell the date on that decal if they didn't already know!
