Columbia princess question
I am cleaning up my Columbia princess machine but have a question about whether a part is supposed to be shiny like nickel or black like it is. Do you know? Please see the attached photos of the part.

That part is black on my 1911 "Favorite". Later models seem to have it nickel-plated, if I remember right. I'm pretty sure yours is correct as it is.

I second the black.
I have a 1914 Columbia "Jewel" with a black scale and nickeled levers.
The plate was chemically darkened.

Third vote for the black.
I just checked a Princess here and although the pointer is nickel, the gauge plate is black.

Thanks everyone for your input. Without other collectors I would be lost and have nothing but questions with no answers. A big THANKS to you guys/gals.

Actually, that part is a dark blue/black finish. It is basically a gun blued finish. How I duplicate this finish is I clean the parts using rubbing alcohol to remove all residue. This has to be absolutely clean. Then I use Birchwood Casey Super Gun Blue that you can get at ant good sporting goods store or a gunshop. I also use this for blued screws like on an Edison.
