This looks like a lower cabinet for a tabletop model and record storage. If I was a little closer I'd check it out... (It is pretty nice looking.)

Re: Nice cabinet on craigslist
My take is a walnut Eastlake/ Aesthetic Movement music cabinet circa 1875-1880.
Old Uncle Wiggily still has a good eye.

Nice call, Uncle Wiggly (if that is in fact your real name)
-- I logged in to say something about the age of this thing, but you had already done so, and the picture's worth a thousand words.
This cabinet definitely dates to before 1900, and even by then it would have been slightly old-fashioned. It's a pretty nice piece though. It's hard to tell from the pictures whether it's actually ebonized wood, or painted later; I suspect it's the latter, though, since the inside looks mahogany. But if those slots at the bottom will fit 10" records, I'd call this a really useful and handsome cabinet, and if it were close to me, I'd consider it a bargain at the price.
