Victor phonograph back bracket

I'm Nicola, from Italy.
I'm 27 and I'm a beginner collector of this fantastic machines.
I'm very happy to write in this forum and I'm happy to find here a lot of people with my same passion.
And please, sorry for my english!

Let's make you a question about my last phonograph.
It's a "european Victor" from Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd. A baby Monarch.

My question is:
How can I remove the tonearm from the back bracket?
I can't see any screw. It seems almost impossible to remove. Which is the trick?

First of all welcome to the forum. Hope to be hearing more from you!

It appears from the pictures you have a pretty standard Victor setup tonearm and back bracket. That small pin at the base of the tonearm should be spring loaded. If you put your fingers around it and push it down. The tonearm should almost fall out. Be careful when you let go of the pin. Hang onto it as the spring pushes it back out. The pin can spring out and you could lose it.

I tried this solution but the pin seemed a bit blocked. I was not sure if that was the right way to proceed so I haven't used excessive force. Tomorrow I would try again!! Thank you!

As mentioned by Valecnik, the pin under the tonearm elbow should be able to be depressed into the back bracket and it may be stuck or snug. Try carefully dripping some very light oil around the pin where it enters the back bracket. Be sure to wipe off any excess oil as it can have a corrosive effect on the bracket. With careful pressure the pin should depress into the back bracket. You may need to hold the pin down while you lift and remove the tonearm from its "seated" position in the bracket. Go slow and you should be fine. When you reinstall the tonearm reverse the process. Keep your eye on the pin after you remove the tonearm as the spring will want to push it out completely. Finally I did it! The pin was stuck because of dirt and I had to use a bit of force to remove it. But now it's free!

Nice HMV you have there. I do not know the model. One of our European members will probably comment. Personally I would not do much with it, probably clean the case with kotton Klenser or some equivalent and that's about it.

It appears to be a Monarch Junior from around 1904/05. I had the same model some years ago.
I cant say I've seen a horn painted that way before. It's a shame the paintworks not in a little better condition. It should restore well though.
