Information Needed On Columbia Grafonola Deluxe

Post by StL Bill »

I am currently in Florida and stumbled on a complete cabinet for the lions-head Columbia Grafonola Deluxe. This is the version that had the phonograph only, no music box. It is missing the complete motor board (including the motor),tone arm ,and horn. I think that this will be a fairly easy restoration because I believe that this version used the standard Columbia Grafonola motor and tone arm. I need to see some pictures of the motor board and motor, tone arm, and horn assembly. If any member has one of these, I would appreciate hearing from them.Besides accurate pictures, I will also need some different dimensions and pictures of the horn.I cannot find any pictures of the phonograph only version anywhere on the internet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bill,

I believe this is going to have pre-1912 motor and hardware...

The tapering tube will be formed from thin brass, wrapped into a cone, and butt-soldered along its length ( read: Fragile!). The mounting to the motor-board will be a flange, with a pinned "ball-socket" for the vertical movement, instead of the elbow
'swing-joint' of the 1913-1926 Columbias.

It will probably have the first version of the Columbia bayonet reproducer mounting, and will probably have either a Columbia #5 or Concert Grand reproducer; either version will probably have a composite mounting: a metal bayonet hub & back-plate, then a rubber isolator disc, and finally the reproducer body.

Probably uses a four-spring motor.

If I have pictures of any of this hardware, I will post.

Steve;
These pictures give me a good start on my restoration, I think that I may have this early motor and tone arm that I need for this. With your permission, I may contact you when I start this restoration with questions about certain dimensions about various things. Thank you so much.
