Need help with Victor CD-20 Counter Top Demonstrator

Post by Green Mountain Bill »

Hello All:

I have working on a Victor CD-20 Counter Top Demonstrator turntable for several years and am now ready to reassemble it. I would like to be in touch with someone who owns one who would be willing to answer some questions about it and perhaps take a few photos of the underside for me.

Here is what I need to know:

1. What does the cable from the reproducer look like and how does it connect to the two phone sockets?
2. Where does the wooden cable minder attach underneath?
3. What does the metal tag say that is located on the end of the machine where the phone sockets are located? (mine doesn't have one)
4. Does the machine have a bottom plywood cover, and if so, what does it look like? (My cabinet has 6 small holes in a rabit cut in the bottom frame of the machine.)

I am the guy who bought the basket case CD-20 sold on eBay several years ago and ever since I have been collecting parts for it and have replaced the top made from the side panel of an Orthophonic machine so that the veneer would match perfectly because of the hole cut in the motorboard by a previous owner to allow a different motor to be attached. The photos below are:
A. a complete CD-20 I found on the Internet
B. my machine as purchased on eBay
C. my machine now, work in progress

I will gratefully receive any help you can offer.

Best Regards,
Green Mountain Bill

That is one heck of a transformation! That is going to be a beautiful machine!

The only thing I can offer advice about is the metal tag between the two phone sockets. I think that is an individual dealer decal. It may have signified which store the machine belonged to, so it might not be on all of the CD-20's that were made.

Can't wait to see this machine put back together :)

Yes, in this case "NATHAN WORTH , RIVERSIDE, N.J. " - he is mentioned in Talking Machine World.

I am so glad to hear that is just the a dealer tag! One less thing to find.

Thanks

This photo should answer some of your questions. It shows the wire routing and connections under the motorboard.

It is clear that my CD-20 had a bottom board at one time, but it is gone today. Also, there is no evidence that there was a tag between the headphone jacks, so I go along with the comments that it is a dealer tag that you see.

I am missing the male AC plug that screws to the rear of the cabinet. The wires that you see falling out the side would attach to this plug.

The picture you posted was my CD-20, the tag is just a dealer tag. I don't remember the name on it, I sold the CD-20 & CD-60 years ago.

Dear Silvertone: Yup! That's exactly the photo I need. Thank you very much for your trouble. If you need a photo of the missing power block, I can supply.

Dear Chuck: Your two photos of your former machines are nearly the only pictures that show up in Google when CD-20 is searched for. I hope they went to a good home.

Now if someone can tell me what the bottom dust cover looks like I will have everything I need.

Best Regards,
Green Mountain Bill

Neither of my CD units had bottoms on them.
