Anyone recognize this machine?

Post by jboger »

Seller claims to be Swiss. Note back screws to hold bracket on are modern.

Yeah, I guess the last time this Swiss machine gave out a yodel was when it was in lederhosen. Still, I wonder if it is Swiss. The crank escutcheon looks like the same one on m Standard Model A (Columbia). I think this bucket of rust may be a Columbian derivative. But I also wonder if that back bracket is original to the machine. The bolts are modern and shiny.

The back bracket and tone arm look like HMV / Gramophone product...

It's a legitimate European machine that needs a lot of help. The arm, and bracket is not an HMV product, but German or Swiss. I'm not sure of the brand. Yes, the bolts are a new hardware store replacement. Except for the bracket bolts, I think this machine is original, and with some effort, will be very attractive.

I see no reason to doubt the German/Swiss origin. Paillard or Thorens are probably the most likely manufacturers, and both also supplied machines to other firms who applied their own brand names. If only that banner transfer on the case was legible.
