WWI era Columbia Record for the German Kaiser?

Post by Let Us Not Forget »

I've had this record for a long time because I liked the colorful label. I've decided to part with it but can't find much info. Was this one of the records sold for the benefit of wounded soldiers? If not, does it have any value? It's single sided. Thanks!

I'd say you have a record valued about $20

Here's the content of the disc...

The US entered the war in 1917.

Above is a monthly american publication, in German, produced for the German population living in the US.
It's largely a pictorial magazine with captions. Folks wanted to see more of the war in the old country.

This and your record were made prior to the US involvement in the war.

An interesting slice of history that can easily be shared with children
Sorry, that's just a poke for another thread. :monkey:

Thank you for the info, James. And for providing a ballpark value. And yes, probably less controversial to play this record than others mentioned in the other thread!

I don't know if this is true or not, but I read or heard that these records were sold to raise money to the German orphans and widows ravaged the the war. I'm sure this was stopped after the US went into the war after 6 APR 1917. Does anyone know about this?

The bottom of the sticker on the back translates roughly as "part of the proceeds of this record are dedicated to the war emergency needy of Germany and Austria-Hungary".

Thank you all for the information. I'm going to list this in the sale section of the forum.
