For it to survive, in the beautiful condition it is in ----is remarkable. If it were an old original car---it would be turned into a Hot Rod and destroyed.

That's a beautifully preserved kit -- possibly because it didn't give the expected results and was tucked in a closet and forgotten? It's hard to imagine this kind of a device producing records that wouldn't disappoint people. Billie Dove seems to like it though, so I guess that's good enough for me. Is this on eBay, or something?
I've wondered about how this kind of set-up was used since Pathé's version of it was included in the sale of a Pathé Actuelle machine at Fontaine's auction in Pittsfield, Mass. a couple years ago. I wasn't at the auction because I was driving in the opposite direction that day to pick up my own Actuelle in New Haven. Wished I had been -- the whole set-up went cheap and the recorder made it an even sweeter deal.
The Pathé model at least seems to have beefy enough cast iron parts to put some weight on the cutter. Looking at the pictures, I don't see how the Talk-Back wouldn't ride the blank too lightly to cut much of a groove. Though maybe the thing above the opening of the horn is some sort of clamp with which to adjust pressure? Just speculatin'. Never seen one of these in person yet.
Here's pics of the Pathé model from that auction:

The Talk back, is it a lateral or vertical It looks almost vertical to me, does it say it uses a wax disc, or a aluminum disc?

For those who might be curious, Billie Dove is the Princess in this clip. She was quite a looker & had a substantial affair with young Howard Hughes.

(As she claims the Talk-Back did for her phonograph listening pleasure)
