FOUND: A couple of mint Standard records

Post by briankeith »

WANTED: Looking to buy a couple of really nice mint (or near mint) Standard Talking Machine Disc Records to play on my Standard AA open works machine I just finished restoring. (larger spindle than the Columbia AU) I find these records very easily at shows but they are always pretty worn or scratched, I can never seem to find really nice clean playing records for some odd reason. I prefer patriotic songs, marches, etc. :D

I don't want to discourage you, but all the Standard records I own (maybe 10?) are beat to death. I'm pretty sure one of them is "Yankee Patrol".

But, they don't look / sound much worse than my Columbia disc records from the same period... don't know if it's a softer, noisier composition, or the tracking weight of a front-mount machine, or both ?

I also have some Victor records from the same estate that were clumsily "reamed-out" to play on a Standard Disc Machine... I should try to find those, and see what kind of shape they are in...

I hope you find some good copies ! :coffee:

Hi Brian,

I've been fortunate to purchase hundreds of 10 inch Standard Disc Records over the years and many are in excellent condition. I have far more than I will ever play on my Standard Talking Machines and I'm sure that I have duplicates and likely triplicates of marches and so forth in nice condition that might interest you. In fairness to those who have responded before me, please feel free to contact them first. Mine would need to be located in the collection, packaged and shipped and while I package incredibly securely (as you know from a recent purchase) there's no shipping cost to buy in person.

Now, as you know, your Standard model AA has (or should have) a 7 inch turntable so if you're looking for 7 inch Standard Disc Records I wouldn't be able to help as I've only found a precious dozen or so of those and would prefer to hold onto them. But, excellent 10 inch Standard Disc Records are definitely out there!
