Edison Triumph lids A A/B B C

Question: was this extra bracing done at the Edison factory? I have 4 Triumphs and only my A/B has this additional wood bracing installed with soft pads. Very curious why only this model?

They were placed in the lids at the factory for shipping. Some people left them in others took them out.
