Academy Stand Up Phonograph

Post by audiophile102 »

I have often referred to the fine article by R J Wakeman entitled "“Off Brand” Talking Machines" and here is the link for that. http://www.antiquephono.org/brand-talki ... j-wakeman/ At the end of the article is a list of off brands that had no information other than the name. So I was surprised to find a listing for one of those on Craigs list. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/atq/5519690689.html Not too many around I suspect.

The Academy gramophone listed in the Craiglist ad is an English one. Academy was a maker of low priced gramophones using Swiss components. Most likely this one came over during the 1980's in a container load of English mid 20th century furniture.
