What would make someone bid like this?

Post by Slaton »

I have seen this quite often recently.. Had it been some other seller, I would have assumed something nefarious but given that the seller is Grant, the only conclusion I can gather is that this is some nut going crazy. Makes no sense

Anil,

Activity like this is usually (though not always) associated with bidders who are new to ebay and believe that 1) if you can just manage to take the lead, you'll probably win the auction and/or 2) the proxy bidding system provides you with no control over your bid and/or 3) it's fun to sit at your keyboard and endlessly bid on an item you want badly but are secretly hoping you don't win.

If a person is using eBay through an App instead of the website (eg. iPhone) then One Click bidding is an option this usually just bids up the price a few dollars so this may be a case of where One Click then another etc...

I had someone bidding like that on one of my auctions a few years back and when I asked the gal about it she told me she had no idea she could bid in larger increments! She was very nice, but also did not buy much stuff on ebay. Remember when a lot of bids got the item into the "Hot item" category.... Whatever that meant.
