Armstrong, "Ain't Misbehavin'" - Okeh Metal Mother

Post by Cody K »

On YouTube, a new transfer from Okeh's metal mother disc. Remarkable sound quality! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Y9NcqUHY4

From the YT posting:

I can guarantee this is the cleanest sounding Louis Armstrong record you'll ever hear! With the original transfer supplied by Nick Dellow, here is the mother record which was shipped by Okeh to Germany for their Odeon pressings. The sound is wonderfully immediate, and crystal clear

Another Louis metal mother will be presented soon - watch this space!

(PS - Only the first photo is of this incarnation of Louis' Orchestra - apologies!)

I saw this on Jonathan's own Facebook page awhile ago. He certainly is doing well with his transfers these days and this is a fine disc by Satchmo, not to mention a metal mother pressing!

Nice! :D

I noticed what might be a little Gershwin quote in his solo: a couple of bars from "Rhapsody in Blue"...

Aren't the Armstrong metal parts stored in Iron Mountain ? Sony used some metal for their Complete Hot Fives & Hot Sevens box set of set of 15 or so years ago - although subject to some processing which some complain about.

The Misbehavin' clip sounds swell. Always been one of my fave early Armstrongs. Lot of room ambiance which normally gets lost under shellac surface noise on that record.

Very, very nice! Armstrong in his prime, both as trumpeter and as vocalist. Wonder who's playing the violin solo (release in the opening chorus)?

OK, just saw the credit for Dickerson on "vn."
