No waiting, Ronnie. The first step is to whale away on that cabinet with a bicycle chain, then stuff an old sock full of sand and black dirt...

Just kidding. Sorry, Martin.

Then it would look like it did before Martin put his magic on it. :P

I would bet that some good suggestions for more civilized aging methods could be had from Wyatt Marcus, our Micamonster.

I've been trying to come up with a snappy response but I've got nothing. On the other hand, I noticed that the finish, when rubbed-out with 0000 steel wool, looks quite a bit more aged:

Almost there...

I'm still amazed by the "greening of the oak" . It turned out just right.
Skill, intuition and art, sez me.

WOW,
That is amazing Martin. You sure are good at this. It looks wonderful and will be one I will keep and that's saying a lot. With the bed plate in good shape as it is, this machine is going to look and play great. I can't thank you enough. :D

Well, time for an update:

This past Saturday I put the last coats of shellac on the case. I let it sit until Tuesday. Partly to let the finish harden up and partly to repair my house's 95 year old plumbing  .

After a light sand and rubbing with 0000 steel wool, it was time to polish. While I should have done the pumice, then rottenstone thing, I did what I always end up doing: using good old autobody polish. I was going for something considerably this side of shiny.

With the polishing done, it was time to replace the hardware.

So, unless Ronnie hates it, I'm just waiting for the finish to harden up enough to ship it. The finish at this point is quite soft. It will harden over time. I just want to get it hard enough so I can safely wrap it without the wrapping leaving an impression on the finish. I'm guessing a week or so before shipping. It'll be like aging a fine cheese... well not really.

I can't wait for you to put it back together, either! It looks like it's gonna be absolutely amazing.
