Thanks for the info, the serial # on this machine is 646579. It has what appears to be the factory installed crane holders. There is one on the bottom of the case and one inlet into the top of the front side of the case. The lid has the label describing how to change the reproducers between 2 and 4 minute records. I'll update the other thread with the serial # as well.

The lowest model D serial numbers are in the 623000 - 626000 range. Many of these are in Tall cases with early single stripe decorations on the bedplates. Some bedplates even have the screw holes for a two minute gear cover suggesting that they were originally intended to be model C machines. With a few exceptions, the next obvious block of model Ds is around 640000 to 666000 range with a mix of Tall and Late style cases. After that they seem to be mostly in Late cases. Dealer, owner or collector case swaps before or after those numbers is always possible. The caveat here is never say never.
