edison home model C and F

Here are a couple of pics of my Edison Home model F. It is serial #408055.

Yes, It's neat to see that such a late machine sports an earlier type dataplate. I've seen quite a few "E" Homes where the letter has been "X"'d out over the letter "D", and an "E" was placed to the right of it. It's kind of obvious that Edison wasted nothing and re-purposed a lot of machines to later models. It makes them that much more interesting today. As History shows, When External Horn machines were on the way out in favor of newer Internal Horn machines, Edison discounted his machines and offered "extras" such as cylinders to sweeten the deal to Jobbers and Buyers.

Wow Doug, That's a nice late Model "F". It's a nice one!

Thanks Doug! These last two entries make the highest serial numbers I've seen on a Home to date. This one has a nice example of the seldom seen type 9 plate that references "Thomas A. Edison, Inc." Two cool entries in one day! I'm going to buy a lottery ticket...

Thanks Tony. My apologies for not editing out my foot from the picture. I wanted to contribute a couple of pictures before the sun went down here so I removed the cygnet horn and crane and hastily carried it to a good natural light source. After I posted the overhead pic I saw my foot. (doh!!) Oh well.

I'll add my serial number to the discussion-- and a few pics. I have a Home F with a 396xxx serial number..The "F" is stamped to the right of the serial number, but doesn't look to be stamped over another letter. It is set up with a horizontal carriage and Diamond B reproducer. It has a small spacer that slips over the end of the mandrel shaft, inside the clutch housing that prevents it from being shifted to 2 minute mode.. The gold "2--4" decoration on the bedplate has been painted over. I have seen other "F" machines with the same paint-over. I know the provenance on this machine and can trace it back to a family in the 1920's. I believe it has been intact--all together -- since new. It is equipped as Frow says it would have left the factory. At some point in it's life someone stripped it (curmudgeon!) They at least saved the decals. It is easy to see that the original finish was not very dark. Probably didn't need to be stripped. It had a frozen mandrel when I got it-- All is well now! It's a nice example of a HTF model and plays great.

Hi Martin--- This machine is from the Luray, Virginia area. I bought it from a Nephew of the family who owned it (He had ownrd it since the mid 60's).. He bought it from a cousin who got it from his parents.... It may well have been in the family since new, but the late 20's is all I'm confidently sure of.
