I have found a mahogany Victrola XII with a bad lid.
The machine is in below average condition.
Looks like the crank escutcheon may be missing.
My poor eyes can't tell from the photo.
I am at work and do not have my copy of "Look For The Dog" at my fingertips.
Were there different iterations of the XII case?
Anyone have a parts machine with a good mahogany lid?
I would think that this machine would be worth saving, given its rarity, despite the condition issues.
Would $250-$300 be a fair offer???
I know that many collectors are reluctant to give a price opinion, as there are many factors that go into the equation, not the least of which is condition.
Please respond to this thread or pm your 2 cents, if you'd like.
Thanks,
Gene

I think that there is a VV-XII refinished case on ebay that hasn't sold for at least a couple of months. Just FYI...
Congratulations to your find, these are very interesting machines.

Your lid looks savable to me. The corners appear tight. All it needs is veneer repair to the top. Am I missing something? Jerry

If you don't want it, I do. It can be fixed up like a shinny penny.

If you can get it for that amount I think you should. That machine uses a unique motor; nothing else will fit and parts are extremely difficult to find. I turned one down several years ago because the spring barrels were missing and I had little confidence that I would ever find a set. I, too think that the lid would be a relatively minor problem if the rest of the machine is complete.
Hint: clean it up and display it with its back against the wall and the lid raised. Problem solved for now.

You can either remove the remaining veneer from the top and replace the full sheet, or just cut out a section, re-glue a section of veneers, sand, stain, coat and enjoy!
The table model VV-XI that I have has similar top, it had previous lid damage that someone repaired, it's not that bad. These are nice early models that perform great and capable of playing 12 inch records.

Re: Victrola XII Tabletop Advice (Pictures Now Added)
You could certainly be correct but I always thought the unusual motor frame of the VV-XII accepted common components like the governor assembly and spring barrels from other Victrolas from the same vintage . I would really appreciate comments from someone that has experience with the VV-XII motor.I turned one down several years ago because the spring barrels were missing and I had little confidence that I would ever find a set.
Thanks, Jerry Blais
