1918 Henry Seymour Book Available on APS Web Site

Post by phonogfp »

I'm pleased to announce the addition of Henry Seymour's 1918 book, The Reproduction of Sound to the Antique Phonograph Society's web site. :)

The book can be downloaded in its entirety here:

http://www.antiquephono.org/category/book-feature/

More major additions are coming in 2016, including a book feature on Sonora Phonographs by R.J. Wakeman.

If you are not already a member of the Antique Phonograph Society and you'd like to support this activity, please consider joining. You'll receive the 52 page full-color quarterly journal, The Antique Phonograph, and share the satisfaction of helping provide resources like this to the hobby. There are many consumers; providers are fewer. Won't you join us? :)

This is a wonderful book,of studio techniques for both cylinders and discs, how to plate the discs, and cylinders, recording compounds, shows and explains record pressing, cylinder molding, cylinder mastering, wax formula,as well as up to date information on the latest phonographs, and gramophones of that period, shows studio recorders, and how to press celluloid cylinders. I know where to get new celluloid, so thought about making new celluloid cylinders.

Pre-recorded cylinders, or celluloid blanks (à la Lioret)?

Celluloid moulded records like Lambert,Us.Everlasting, indestructible, Blue Amberol, where a metal matrix is made, from a wax master, and then steam and air pressure used to make the copy.
